What of the dead?

Do you believe the dead forever still,
Within the confines of each narrow cell,
Immobilized in body and in will,
The earth their penance and their citadel?
Or is the questing spirit then quite free,
To seek out places loved, or those unknown,
Without restraint of time or land or sea,
Beyond where either men or birds have flown?
